The history of Egypt is one of the most fascinating in the world. There are countless sites to explore, from the pyramids (a must-see), to the Valley of the Kings, to breathtaking temples like Karnak near Luxor and The Ramesseum in western Thebes. Why not visit the first pyramid to ever be built, the Step Pyramid of Djoser? Pharaoh Djoser had it constructed over 4,000 years ago and it still stands today.
When you visit these landmarks, you can get a taste of ancient Egyptian life dating back 5,000 years. Wander through pyramid corridors, excavated tombs and ancient temples, and imagine the power and grace of a bygone era — where civilisations flourished in this harsh desert landscape. Explore tombs and learn about Ancient Egyptian art that has been carefully preserved. With an incredible amount of ancient wonders to explore, Egypt may be one of the most iconic destinations on Earth.
As the world’s longest river, the Nile River is a popular attraction, offering boat tours and other activities. Whether you’re taking a day trip or cruising for a few days, there’s so much to see along this incredible route.
You’ll float past ancient monuments and temples, visit local bazaars and markets, and might even have the opportunity to try travelling on a traditional felucca boat, which has an open deck and a large canvas sail. Depending on which stretch of the river you visit, you could see the Karnak Temple, the Valley of the Kings, and Kom Ombo, which is dedicated to two Egyptian gods, Horus and Sobek, and is said to protect the area from crocodiles.
Ready for a coastal escape? Egypt is the perfect destination if you're looking for rest and relaxation in a beautiful setting. Its Red Sea coast offers some of the world’s best beach resorts that promise to make your trip truly special.
Here you can enjoy some of the world's most stunning and untouched expanses of coastline, from powder-soft sand to crystal-clear waters. If you're looking for something more thrilling, check out the diverse range of activities, from snorkelling, swimming with dolphins, kitesurfing and more.
We’ve already mentioned kitesurfing, but there’s much more: adventure seekers can go sand-boarding, quad biking or camel riding in the desert, enjoy horseback riding past some of the country’s most stunning areas, try their hand at parasailing when the wind conditions are right, or dive in the waters of the Red Sea, home to bright coral reefs and plenty of fish.
Or why not go on a desert safari? Take a day trip or get the full experience and camp out there for a night or two. Whatever you decide, you’ll have the opportunity to appreciate the vast, changing landscape of undulating sand dunes and rock formations, far from the busy rush of everyday life. Be careful when taking out your travel insurance policy — make sure any adventurous activities are covered.
The food in Egypt is delicious and varied, with something to suit everyone’s tastes. Popular dishes include koshary, which is a mixture of rice, macaroni, chickpeas and lentils, topped with tomato sauce, onion and garlic. Another is falafel, a mixture of ground chickpeas, herbs and spices, rolled into balls and fried. Another popular Egyptian dish is ful medames, which is a stew of mashed fava beans in olive oil and lemon juice. Last but not least, knafeh, which is a pastry filled with cheese, cream or nuts, soaked in sugar syrup! Wash it all down with some traditional tea, which is sweetened with mint, and delicious.
The capital city of Egypt, Cairo, is a bustling metropolis with plenty of shopping, dining, and nightlife options. Founded in 969 AD, it’s just as fascinating as the rest of the country and it’s easy to fall in love with the unique character as you venture around the city.
As you explore you'll find winding bazaars selling intricate jewellery and pottery, tombs of famous leaders and thinkers, ancient mosques and churches lit up at night by an abundance of beautiful lighting, and some of the most iconic pyramids in the world. From the hustle and bustle of the streets to the grand architecture, Cairo has plenty to experience. It’s a real mix of old and new, but all these elements come together to create something special.
So, whether you're looking for adventure or relaxation, Egypt has something for everyone. We recommend that you travel there between October and April, when the temperatures are cool enough for you to explore in comfort, but the sun is still pleasantly warm. Want to avoid the crowds? Travel just outside these times for lower prices and a quieter stay, without the discomfort of summer’s 40-degree heat.
Have you been to Egypt before? Come join our equestrian meet-up in Luxor, or book your own dates anywhere between October and April. Make sure to bring your non-riding friends too! Feel free to contact me with any questions or to book your trip to Egypt.
